MISSION
To joyfully celebrate children with special health care needs and enrich their lives by promoting each child’s individual health care, developmental, and psychosocial goals in an encouraging atmosphere of their peers; and to strengthen and support their families.
 
VISION
Daystar Kids pioneering work to support children coping with complex health care needs and developmental challenges is an innovative best practices model for replication; effectively bridging the gap from inpatient care until children successfully transition into school-based services.
OUR VALUES
Founded in 1988 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester to address a critical gap in services to support families living at home with infants and young children with special health care needs, Today, Daystar Kids is the vanguard for delivering family-centered, coordinated, pediatric subacute care. Daystar Kids inclusive, encouraging learning environment and nurturing, social atmosphere recognizes each child’s individuality beyond the limits of their medical diagnosis and its innovative program has won accolades from New York State Office of Children and Family Services as a Best Practices Program & Environment.  Daystar is an independent, charitable 501 (c) 3 organization.

 

Daystar Kids is New York State’s first-and-only Pediatric Center for children up to age six who are braving serious, and often life-threatening health care complexities and developmental challenges.

 

Daystar Kids one-of-a-kind program incorporates a coordinated,

case-management approach to ensure that each child receives the expert care they need to successfully support their developmental, health care, and family goals. Daystar Kids core services model incorporates expert pediatric nursing and respite care, therapeutic and educational enrichment programs, family training, support, and advocacy services, including care coordination and transitional services for children leaving early intervention programs and entering school-based systems of care.

Daystar Kids provides seamless coordination of each child's required therapies and partners closely with Monroe County’s Early Intervention program and area school districts. Daystar Kids also offers weekly music therapy and special education services for all enrollees, through its own adaptive early intervention curriculum. Special Early Education Developmental Strategies (SEEDS).

Operating year-round, Daystar Kids is the only center-based program available offering full-day learning opportunities for children as young as six months of age through age five across its three dedicated classrooms.
