Our Team

Daystar is staffed by a dedicated group of compassionate and talented professionals who share their devotion to children with special healthcare needs and have an inherent desire to help children live joyfully and meet their goals to the best of their abilities. 



The leadership team is responsible for overseeing the management and strategic direction of the agency while the program and nursing teams work collaboratively to ensure the delivery of high quality, individualized developmental, educational and healthcare services in a developmentally appropriate group setting.

Has helped establish Daystar Kids as New York State’s first and only Pediatric Day-Respite Center specifically designed to provide a broad range of psychosocial, developmental, and healthcare supports for families of children with serious medical complexities.

Mary Merkel,

Director of Finance and Administration

As  Director of Finance and Administration, Mary oversees all financial and administrative functions of the organization. Mary is responsible for accounting systems, internal controls, and financial reporting. She coordinates and provides materials for the annual audit and administers Daystar’s employee payroll and benefit programs. 

Pamela D. White

Director of Development

Pamela has over 28 years of experience raising money for nonprofit organizations throughout Rochester. She has worked at The College at Brockport, the University of Rochester, Hillside Children’s Center, and McQuaid Jesuit. She recently moved to Daystar Kids to help build their advancement program, including: major gifts, annual giving, events and marketing/communications.

Liz Martin

With over 30 years of experience in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, Liz has worked for Deloitte and Arthur Young, and for The Community Place of Greater Rochester as both VP of Finance and VP of Operations and Facilities.  Liz once served as Daystar’s Director of Finance, retiring in 2014 and returning in 2015 in her current role as QA Officer.  In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Liz has a M.S. in Business Management from Nazareth College and a B.S. in Accounting from RIT.

Lisa DiDomenico, MS Ed.
Preschool Education & Curriculum Manager

Lisa brings over 13 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher and Universal Preschool Teacher, as well as three years of experience as the Lead Preschool Teacher at Daystar, to her role.  She has knowledge in adapting curriculum, working with NYS Preschool Standards, advocating at CPSE/CSE meetings and working within a team to meet the needs of all children.
